i LIKE IT NOW

I learned to sketch with videos and made many sketches over the past few years. I initially thought this was preparation for a feature film, but I grew tired of moving images and longed for things that weren’t tied to time. I started printing out my stills, one still for every three minutes of video and placed them on my studio wall, living with them for two months. From these, I chose one still and created a large painting based on it. I liked the painting before I had finished as planned, so I left it as it was. This kind of work was something I couldn’t achieve with video. At one point, I painted all my stills green. I tried to present my painting against the green paper wall in a performance for the three people I share the studio with, but I eventually gave up and displayed it at an exhibition instead.
